SB3 Research 02

For research we decided to look at news outlets - with pressing matters being our name we thought it relevant to look into those who deliver important news usually.

The name ‘Pressing Matters’ directs your mind to the thought of news reports and both broadsheet and tabloid papers. With this said the research was focused on these kinds of publications and what colours, typefaces, layouts and images they use.

Most broadsheet papers are similar in layout with a lot of body text in a small point underneath headlines in a serif font with images to accompany them.

Tabloid papers on the other hand use big bold headlines with larger usually sans serif fonts to attract people walking by newstands. They often have gripping headlines and include questionable information in the articles as they are all about the sales rather than good journalism and content.

Sandwich boards are also used to display headlines however these are usually amusing in nature and for local newspapers. This kind of thing could come in for social media to grab the attention of creatives with humour about design.
