404 Development of Revised Penguin Books

Above is the initial design I created for The Great Gatsby, it featured a different layout to the other two books however I felt it had the strongest concept, using an illustration to create a repeat pattern. This pattern was created with inspiration from 1920s Art Deco.

I took to the marber grid and developed a document the correct size for a penguin book - height 197mm, width per cover 129mm with a spine of 25mm giving an overall spread width of 283mm. The first design uses gold and royal blue however upon consideration, and experimenting with 3 colours on the other designs I thought it would be best to only use two colours for a more coherent set of designs.

These colours do work well together however the use of the cream in the lollipops, as well as for background to the text would bring the book together in a more successful way.

These are the final colour ways, however I will be changing the title texts to match the predominant colours for each design.
