I picked up a copy of their Little Black Book

The guide has colour coded sides, Hannah is going to look into if this would be possible with the printing resources we have at university.

The codes are also in the outer margins of the guide, it is helpful for users to quickly see what section they are currently in. This book is small in size but long in how many pages, there isn't any page numbers which could be an improvement if users want to find something fast. Our book won't be as long as it is focusing on trendy/ up and coming independent hang outs for food/ drink and shopping, as you can see below there are some businesses like dentists, which isn't relevant to what we are trying to produce and put out there.

The pages are very informative, including photographs, websites, social medias, information about the business etc. The text is legible, short and straight to the point, all of the pages that include independent businesses are the same layout, which works well and is easy to navigate, I however would like our guide to be slightly more fun and exciting, sticking to a standard grid but changing the positions of the photographs and titles. Some of the independents don't have great photographs and we don't have the money or time to shoot the places ourselves, so the layout must allow for some without photos.

The map is fun, sort of not in theme with the other pages, but this sort of design would be ideal for our guide. The map in ours will be to show where the independents are in relation to each other in the city centre, hyde park, headingley and further.
